Israel to Obama: West Bank, Golan Heights in return for Iran’s nuclear deal . - Official Israeli politicians and right wing officials have called for American President Barack Obama to accept the annexation of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank in return for Israel’s consent on the Iranian nuclear deal, Arabi21 reported yesterday.

Politicians and officials consider the US’s adoption of Israel’s plans regarding its conflict with the Palestinians compensation for Israeli losses in the Iranian deal.

In an article published in Makor Rishon, an Israeli newspaper, Aria Kahana said: “The Israeli settlements [in the occupied West Bank] are considered one of the main constructions to secure the strategic Israeli depth. This needs the American administration to clearly and candidly adopt Israeli annexation to them.” >>>

Die Jerusalem Post führt eine Kampagne gegen Lillian Rosengarten, die auf Vortragsreise in Deutschland ist

Wenn es nach der israelischen Zeitung Jerusalem Post geht, ist da eine jüdische Todfeindin Israels zur Zeit auf Vortragsreise in Deutschland. Da wird Lillian Rosengarten vorgeworfen, eine „Gegnerin der Existenz Israels“ zu sein, Israel mit Hitlers „Drittem Reich“ zu vergleichen; außerdem wird ihr angelastet zu behaupten, dass Israel eine „ethnische Säuberung“ an den Palästinensern betreibe, „rassistisch“ und ein „Apartheidstaat“ sei. Zudem leugne sie den Holocaust: Zu dem letzten Punkt sagt sie: „Wenn mein Vater am Beginn der Nazi-Zeit die Gefahr nicht erkannt hätte und wir Deutschland nicht in Richtung USA verlassen hätten, wären meine Familie und ich auch in einem Vernichtungslager gelandet und dann säße ich heute natürlich nicht hier!“

Holocaust-Leugnung also? Die meisten Vorwürfe gegen sie sind diffamierende Unterstellungen. Aber dafür, dass Israel „ethnisch säubert“, „rassistisch“ oder ein Apartheidstaat ist, sprechen viele nicht zu widerlegende Fakten. Und mit solchen Aussagen steht sie nun wirklich nicht allein. Dutzende von israelischen Wissenschaftlern und Publizisten sagen und schreiben dasselbe. Die Artikel und Bücher dieser Autoren/innen füllen inzwischen ganze Regale. Was also ist so besonders aufregend an Aussagen von Lillian Rosengarten, dass die Jerusalem Post eine so infame Kampagne startet, an der auch die israelische Botschaft in Berlin, der Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland und deutsche Israel-Gesellschaften beteiligt sind? Die Antworte ist immer dieselbe: Es darf – auch in Deutschland – nur ein Informations- und Meinungsbild über Israel geben – und das ist das offiziell verbreitete dieses Staates. Dafür sorgt auch in diesem Fall die Israel-Lobby. Wer sich nicht daran hält, muss mit gnadenloser Abstrafung rechnen. Auch die Jüdin Lillian Rosengarten wird als „Antisemitin“ diffamiert. Die Kampagne der Jerusalem Post löste in Israel einen sheet-storm im Internet aus, bei dem auch Todesdrohungen gegen sie ausgesprochen wurden.

Und natürlich gilt der Vorwurf des Antisemitismus auch für alle Nahost-Gruppen und Organisationen, die die amerikanische Jüdin zu Vorträgen eingeladen haben, selbst die katholische Organisation Pax Christi muss sich das sagen lassen. Die Kampagne ausgelöst hatte die Ankündigung, dass Frau Rosengarten in einem Raum des Städtischen Museums in Düren sprechen würde, der der örtlichen Sparkasse gehört. Da wurde von den Kampagne-Betreibern als Druckmittel auch gleich auf die Rolle dieser Institution im „Dritten Reich“ hingewiesen. Sprecher des Museums und der Bank äußerten sich aber eher zurückhaltend auf die Vorwürfe aus Jerusalem, betonten ihre historische Verantwortung, zeigten aber Zivilcourage und sagten die Veranstaltung in ihrem Raum nicht ab.

Am Sonntagabend sprach Frau Rosengarten in Bremen. Dort hatte es keinen Streit um den Raum gegeben. Und die Menschen, die zahlreich gekommen waren und ihr zuhörten, konnten sich selbst ein Bild machen. Da trat eine wunderbare, sehr aufgeschlossene und warmherzige ältere Dame auf, die so gar nichts von einer antizionistischen Agitatorin hat. Ihr ganz persönliches Anliegen ist es, für Menschenrechte und Frieden einzutreten. In ihrem Vortrag hat sie an keiner Stelle Hass auf Israel gepredigt und die Zerstörung dieses Staates gefordert. Abbas to declare end of Oslo II Accord at UN general assembly - Donia Al-Watan - Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to announce an end to the Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestinians, a senior Palestinian official told the Palestinian news agencies Monday. The move comes as the Palestinian leadership has grown increasingly frustrated by a years-long impasse with Israel.

The decision to nullify the agreement was reportedly drafted by a preparatory committee in advance of an upcoming Palestine National Council meeting; the decision is likely to be announced before a U.N. General Assembly meeting slated for later in September. Various faction members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the most significant Palestinian international representative body, have reportedly already agreed to the idea.

The Oslo Accords were considered a landmark agreement when reached in 1993. They marked the first time Israeli and PLO officials formally recognized each other and stipulated the creation of a temporary Palestinian administrative authority as an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank by 1998 gradually took place.

Nearly two decades on, Israel continues to occupy the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority maintains only limited governing power and Jewish settlements continue to expand. By announcing an end to the accord, Abbas is expected to declare the West Bank a state that is officially under foreign occupation and that no longer is bound to the agreement with Israel. >>>

Ich bin ein Mensch: Adel Alnaji - Ich heiße Adel Alnaji. Ich bin 43 Jahre alt und bin in Syrien geboren – im Jarmuk-Flüchtlingslager. Ich habe davon geträumt, in meine Heimat, Palästina, zurückzukehren, um dort ein normales Leben führen zu können.

In Syrien arbeitete ich im Kundenservice eines Mobilfunk-Unternehmens. Ich heiratete und bald waren wir eine 5-köpfige Familie. Meine Frau hatte auch Arbeit und wir bauten ein kleines Haus und gestalteten es für unsere Kinder. Es sollte der Kern ihrer Zukunft sein. Wir waren eine glückliche Familie.
Als unser Haus fast fertig war, begann die Krise in Syrien. Schon nach wenigen Tagen fielen Bomben. Die Kleinen weinten und wir verließen unser Zuhause so rasch wir konnten. Wir mussten einen sicheren Ort suchen, wo wir unser Leben neu beginnen und unseren Kindern eine neue Zukunft geben können.

Es ist schwer, ein Leben von Neuem anzufangen, damit die Kinder es wieder gut haben. Wir zogen in eine Gegend, die von den Truppen des Regimes kontrolliert wurde. Als sie erfuhren, dass ich palästinensischer Flüchtling bin, drohte man mir mehrmals mit Verhaftung. Ich wurde mit einigen anderen zur Front gebracht. Wir sollten dort einen Schutz gegen die Oppositionsmilizen bauen.

Zu dieser Zeit beschloss ich auszuwandern und eine neue Zukunft für mich und meine Kinder aufzubauen – und um dem Tod zu entkommen. Ich stieg in einen Bus Richtung Türkei, dann nach Griechenland und Mazedonien. Wieder geriet ich in die Hände von Schleppern. Sechs Nächte schlief ich in den Wäldern, aber sobald ich die Grenze zu Serbien überquert hatte, verspürte ich zum ersten Mal so etwas wie Freiheit. Schließlich kam ich nach Österreich. Es gibt viele Gründe, um in Österreich Asyl zu suchen. >>>

Iranischer Präsident gratuliert zum jüdischen Neujahrsfest - Rohani erinnert an "Abrahamitische Wurzeln" von Juden und Muslimen - Während die Oberste Führung des Iran regelmäßig die Existenzberechtigung von Israels in Frage stellt, hat Präsident Hassan Rohani am Sonntag auf Twitter zum jüdischen Neujahr, Rosh HaShanah, Glückwünsche übermittelt. Die Steine von Jerusalem - Yonatan Mendel - Wie alle guten Geschichten beginnt auch diese an einem heißen Sommertag. Sie spielt in Jerusalem im Jahr 2000. Meir Margalit, linker Oppositionsvertreter im Stadtrat von Jerusalem, saß in seinem Büro und dachte darüber nach, wie er den damaligen Bürgermeister Ehud Olmert in Verlegenheit bringen könnte. Er beschloss, eine offizielle Anfrage an ihn zu richten. „Ich würde gern etwas über das arabische Dorf Ein Fuad in Erfahrung bringen“, schrieb Margalit. „Das Dorf liegt, wie wir alle wissen, in Ostjerusalem.“ Er frage sich gerade, ob Ein Fuad wohl die gleichen kommunalen Dienstleistungen zur Verfügung stünden wie den jüdischen Vierteln. Olmert schluckte den Köder. „Ein Fuad genießt allmonatlich sämtliche städtischen Dienstleistungen“, hieß es in der Antwort aus dem Büro des Bürgermeisters, „einschließlich Sozialhilfe, Bildungswesen, Straßenbeleuchtung und Müllabfuhr.“

Wahrscheinlich hat Margalit, als er diesen Brief las, nur traurig gelächelt. Jedenfalls schrieb er mit schwarzer Tinte lediglich diesen einen Satz zurück: „Es gibt keinen Ort namens Ein Fuad.“1 Margalit hatte das arabische Dorf erfunden.

Ich habe in den 1980er Jahren meine Kindheit im westlichen Teil der Stadt verbracht und kann mich noch gut an meine eigene Wahrnehmung der Trennung zwischen „Ost“- und „West“-Jerusalem erinnern. Der Westen war mein Zuhause, hier habe ich auf der Straße gespielt und später studiert. Der Osten, der in meiner Vorstellung nur aus der Altstadt bestand, war der abenteuerliche, laute und bunte Orient. Unsere Familienbesuche in der Altstadt, zwischen den massiven Mauern, die ich stets mit König Salomon verband, beflügelten meine Fantasie: Das Bild von dem Scheich, dem Rabbiner und dem Priester, die nebeneinander durch eine Gasse spazierten, vermischte sich mit dem Duft von Weihrauch, dem Geschmack von Mandelmilch und den Rufen der arabischen Händler im Souk. Heute scheinen solche Erinnerungen einem der orientalistischen Gemälde des US-Künstlers Edwin Lord Weeks (1849 bis 1903) entsprungen.

Bei einem Klassenausflug haben wir irgendwann mal die Davidszitadelle besichtigt – „Das Museum im Davidsturm. Wo Jerusalems Geschichte beginnt“, lautete damals der Slogan –, und ich weiß noch, wie wir Jungs, damals vielleicht 12 oder 13 Jahre alt, unbedingt die Stelle finden wollten, von der König David seine Nachbarin Bathseba, deren Mann mit dem israelitischen Heer vor dem belagerten Rabba lag, beim Baden erblickte. Daraufhin ließ David, so die Erzählung im Alten Testament, Bathseba zu sich holen, schwängerte >>>

Israeli gov’t used my image for propaganda purposes without my consent - Mukarram AbuAlouf - On September 9, the Israeli agency for Coordination of Government Activities in the (Palestinian) Territories, or COGAT, posted the photograph below, aimed at proving that Palestinian students are freely leaving Gaza for opportunities abroad. “It wrote: LIVE: 65 students exit #Gaza to study abroad #LikeEveryMonth.” The student in the propaganda photo saw it and wrote a response. My response to COGAT’s photo of me as I crossed Erez from Gaza

Not only was I shocked to see the Israeli “Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories” photo of myself on their facebook post, but even more disgusted by the fact they have used it to make a claim that is 100% false. This is ME in this picture- the Palestinian woman.

And yes, I did get out of the Gaza Strip through The Israeli Erez Checkpoint on December, 29th 2014 which was eight months ago. The laugh I have on my face is a laugh out of fear and indeed it was a miracle the photographer caught that moment given the ordeal I had just been through. I spent the entire time extremely scared as the checkpoint was full of Israeli soldiers with their advanced weapons, knowing full well they controlled our entire lives. I was thinking to myself that they can shoot me in the blink of an eye and I will be just another number of the Palestinian body count, killed by Israel and forgotten by the outside world. Israel, “Securocratic” Warfare and the Pacification Industry - Jonathan Cook - For 18 years Jeff Halper has been on the front lines of the Israel-Palestine conflict, helping to rebuild Palestinian homes in the occupied territories demolished by Israel. As he prepares to step down as head of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), he is publishing a new book on Israel.

Halper’s main conclusion is disturbing. Israel, he says, is globalising Palestine. The former anthropology professor’s wide-ranging research has forced him into an expertise he is not entirely comfortable with: the global arms industry.

Halper argues that Israel is cashing in – both financially and diplomatically – on systems of control it has developed in the occupied territories. It is exporting its know-how to global elites keen to protect their privileges from both external and internal challengers.

In a world supposedly mired in an endless war on terror, we may all be facing a future as Palestinians.

Halper’s book, entitled War Against the People: Israel, the Palestinians and Global Pacification, due out next week, suggests that Israel provides a unique window on some of the most important recent developments in what he terms “securocratic warfare”. >>>

Business as usual for children arrested by the IDF - Despite lofty promises and pilot programs aimed at improvement, evidence points to little change in the patterns of abuse Palestinian children are subjected to when arrested by the Israeli army. - Gerard Horton

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in March 2013 that it would study the conclusions of a UNICEF report on children held in military detention which found that ill-treatment appeared to be “widespread, systematic and institutionalized” and work to implement them through “ongoing cooperation” with the UN agency. Two-and-a-half years on and around 2,250 arrests later, there is new evidence as to how this “cooperation” is progressing.

To begin with, the number of children arrested at night appears to have jumped from 51 percent in 2013 to 65 percent today. >>>>

Mexican firm distorts law to justify plunder of Palestinian resources - Adri Nieuwhof - A Mexican firm has tried to justify supplying building materials to Jewish-only settlements in the occupied West Bank by pointing to how those colonies have been authorized by Israel.

While all Israeli settlements in the West Bank violate international law, the corporation Cemex has argued that many of them are legal.

In a letter sent recently to the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, the Mexican firm admits that its subsidiary Cemex Israel operates concrete production plants in the West Bank.

According to the firm, these plants “are located in legal settlements that have been approved by the Israeli government” and “validated” by Israel’s high court.

Cemex claims that it does not deal with “illegal settlements” — which it defines as “settlements not approved by the Israeli government.”

The arguments used by the firm mirror those employed by the Israeli authorities in their attempts to explain the theft of Palestinian land. They overlook how all of Israel’s settlements breach international law. >>>

I do not want to be a number - Atef Abu Saif - Despite a long night of bombing, I was woken up early this morning at 7:30 by voices coming through the window of my room: newly displaced people taking refuge in the UNRWA school across the street. In the last two weeks, thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes on the coastal side of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun to avoid being killed by a shell from a tank or a warship. They have brought with them little but their desire to survive and have travelled toward the neighborhood I have lived in all my life, Jabalia. Jabalia is itself a refugee camp, established after the 1948 Nakba when thousands were forced to leave their villages and towns across the country that was Palestine.

Already the most densely populated camp in the Gaza Strip, Jabalia is now receiving a new wave of refugees after 66 years. Some people have suggested this “camp” identity will never go away – characterized by the same scenes, same details, same broken dreams, same fears, same cries, same shouts. It’s never going to transform into something else even if, architecturally, it isn’t the sea of tents it began life as, or the shantytown of the ‘60s and ‘70s. There may have been developments and investments in the ‘90s, but the camp remains a camp; the streets are as narrow as a couple of feet wide in places and the residents are still refugees, whether old or new.

I can hear that the school across the street is now full of people. All the schools of Jabalia camp have become camps themselves. How ironic – this new influx of vulnerable people.

A sense of uncertainty dominates life here. The newly displaced refugees have no idea what they will do in the next few hours, realizing that nothing is certain and that what they plan to do is 100 percent not going to happen. From my window, which overlooks the school, I can see old women throwing their tiredness down on the little steps in front of the playground, their children clinging to them, many of them crying; old men looking nervously up to the sky where drones are still hovering, making a noise they will not forget through all the years they have left. The UNRWA man is trying to organize everything in this chaos.
