Yair Lapids destruktive Konspiration für  das Schweigen über Israel
Gideon Levy -  10.07.2016

Letters to the Editor - New York Times - December 4, 1948

LETTER SIGNED BY ALBERT EINSTEIN and HANNAH ARENDT and many more „not to support this latest manifestation of fascism. „

TO THE EDITORS OF THE NEW YORK TIMES: Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our times is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the „Freedom Party“ (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties. It was formed out of the membership and following of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a terrorist, right-wing, chauvinist organization in Palestine.

Albert_Einstein_and_others_letterThe current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections, and to cement political ties with conservative Zionist elements in the United States. Several Americans of national repute have lent their names to welcome his visit. It >>>

How AIPAC Is Using Black Leaders to Erase Palestinian Suffering from the Democratic Party Platform - David Harris-Gershon - This is the story of how a powerful lobbying organization enlists black Americans – victims of oppression and state violence for centuries – to mask the suffering of another oppressed people. It is the story of how the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) strategically recruits and educates black leaders to defend Israel from critique. And it is the story of how Palestinians living under Israel’s occupation suffer in ways that reverberate upon America’s streets – where black bodies are bruised, bloodied and destroyed under the weight of police violence, mass incarceration, and disenfranchisement.

It is a story which begins – for our purposes – on June 9 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, where a public hearing on the Democratic Platform convened for two days of discussion and debate in advance of the Drafting Committee’s work in St. Louis at the end of June. >>>

West Bank Demolition Raids, Vandalism Continues Unabated - Several Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers invaded, on Tuesday, morning, ‘Anata town, northeast of annexed East Jerusalem, and demolished sheds, a farm, a car repair facility and several walls, in addition to closing agricultural roads.

The head of Anata Local Council Taha No’man told WAFA that Israeli soldiers demolished seven sheds belonging to Bedouin families in the town.

He further noted that the army also demolished a farm belonging to resident Ahmad al-Hilo, in addition to a car repair center belonging to Ashraf al-Julani.

The army imposed a strict siege on the entire area, after declaring it a closed military zone, and prevented the residents from entering or leaving it.

No’man added that the car repair facility was 230-250 meters in size, and that the soldiers demolished it without even allowing the owner to remove his machines.

The soldiers also closed several agricultural roads, especially in al-Fheidat and al-Boheira areas, in Anata, after installing sand hills to completely block any access to new construction sites in Anata >>>

Extremist Settlers Raid Al Aqsa, Jospeh’s Tomb - Groups of extremist Israeli settlers led by the radical rabbi, Yehuda Glick, heavily guarded by Israeli special forces broke into the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, early on Tuesday.

About 30 Israeli settlers stormed the mosque from Al-Maghariba gate, while the Israeli forces heavily deployed to guard them.

Israeli channel 10 said, according to Al Ray Palestinian Media Agency, that Yehuda Glick, the rabbi who led the incitement, had received threats on Facebook prior to the raid.

Al-Aqsa Mosque witnesses, almost daily, occurrences of incursions and violations by Israeli settlers and extremists, amid tight restrictions imposed on the entry of Palestinian worshipers.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and is also venerated as Judaism’s most holy place. Disputes surrounding visitation to the site have historically flared tensions in the occupied Palestinian territory.

In 2003, the Israeli government unilaterally decided — despite the objections of the Islamic Endowments Department — to allow non-Muslim visitors into the complex. >>>

Europe still funding Israeli torture, drones and racial profiling - Maren Mantovani - It is time for European citizens to demand not a penny more of their tax money be spent on Israeli military and security corporations - As European leaders are gathered in Brussels to discuss the future of the EU, they would be well advised to put into effect values of accountability, justice and solidarity - and halt funding for Israel's repressive apparatus against Palestinians.

The EU has funnelled hundreds of millions of euros to sustain Israel’s regime of occupation and apartheid through its research and development funding schemes.

Protests are currently growing against "Lawtrain", a five million euro project funded by the EU that brings together the Israeli Ministry for Public Security and the Israeli National Police with their counterparts from Belgium, Portugal and Spain. Lawtrain sees companies, universities and research institutes coming together to develop technology that unifies methodology for police interrogations.

The UN Committee Against Torture in May once again exhorted Israel to outlaw torture and highlighted ongoing practices of torture and ill-treatment in the interrogation process, in particular against Palestinian juveniles. >>>

Humiliation: The hammer crushing Palestinian society - Samah Jabr - While the exercise of military control over an occupied country may be expected to inflict inevitable pain and trauma on the citizens of that country, the history of Israeli policy has far exceeded any “pragmatic” needs of an occupier to dominate and subdue a local population. The Israeli humiliation of Palestinians is an end in itself. Humiliation is thus one of the most important injuries experienced in the Palestinian context and yet, it is under-reported to such a degree that humiliation is viewed as almost normal.

Despite resolutions by the United Nations, the global acquiescence to the occupation of Palestine by the previous colonial powers has denied Palestinians their freedom, their status as citizens, and their exercise of human rights on an international level. At the level of society, the occupation has generated layers of humiliation through the maintenance of inequity within power relationships and perceptions of cultural status. In addition to these broad sources of injury, there are endless repetitive personal experiences of humiliation from which no Palestinian individual is spared.

The omnipresent Israeli forces come into daily contact with Palestinian men, women and children; in these interactions, humiliation and shame are typical. One asks: how can a humiliated man look into the eyes of his wife to make her feel protected and proud? How can a humiliated parent promise a future to a little one who is held in the hands of a human being whose spirit has been broken? >>>

BDS is a war Israel can’t win - Stanley Cohen - Israeli think-tank fellow Yossi Klein Halevi, writing recently in the Los Angeles Times [“Why the anti-Israel boycott movement is an immoral threat to peace”] would have American readers believe that the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement is “immoral” and threatens the peace of “the region’s only intact society”, while simultaneously boasting it can’t touch Israel’s health and global economic integration.

Yet his reasoning from “morals” rings hollow, and amounts to little more than the shilling of the professional apologist industry deployed on Israel’s behalf throughout the Western media, in the never-ending defence of the oppressive status quo in Palestine.

Halevi excoriates BDS, disingenuously, for making the Jewish state “the world’s most pressing problem” today, while extolling Israel’s freedoms and national righteousness. Of course, his complaint manages to engage in both self-pitying and craven boosterism at the same time – a kind of perverse humble-brag.

No, Mr Halevi, Israel is not the world’s greatest problem – rather, Israel is Palestine’s great, existential, enduring problem for a people who have lived their whole lives under the constant, brutal and de-humanising occupation of this enlightened state. >>>

UN double standards with regards to Israel  - Jehan Alfarra - There has been a notable increase in worldwide grassroots action attempting to hold Israel accountable for its large-scale violations of international law and Palestinian human rights as well as its sustained occupation of Palestine. This is perhaps best reflected in the growing support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, with a diverse range of supporters – American Jews included – that even the New York Times has recognised.

Palestine is increasingly becoming acknowledged and recognised as a state as well, whether being granted full recognition by Sweden or through non-binding parliamentary votes, as in Britain. This change in Palestine’s international relations reflects shifting public sentiment on a political level around the world. It appears, though, that the international community continues to employ double standards in relation to Israel, as the Jewish state continues to be shielded from any scrutiny and accountability.

Last month, Israel was elected to head the Sixth Committee at the incoming United Nations General Assembly. One of the UN’s six permanent boards, the Sixth Committee is the primary forum for the consideration of legal questions in the General Assembly.

Considering Israel’s running history of breaching international law, the Fourth Geneva Convention and countless UN resolutions, it is exceptionally ironic that it will be chairing a legal committee that aims to uphold international law and protect basic human rights. >>>

Israel stops Italian delegation entering Gaza

Israel yesterday banned an Italian delegation led by the Deputy Parliament Speaker Luigi de Mayo from entering the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, Italy’s Five Star Movement said the Italian Embassy in Israel informed De Mayo and parliamentarians Manlio Di Stefano and Ornella Bertorauta that the Israeli government will not allow the delegation to cross into the Gaza Strip to visit the Italian projects in Gaza.

The group will visit projects in the occupied West Bank.
