Israel to have taskforce to fight BDS - Israel to have taskforce to fight BDS - Israel’s Knesset agreed on Monday night to have taskforce working against movements that promote boycotting Israel and to prevent them from operating within the country.

A senior official, who spoke to Israeli newspaper Haaretz on condition of anonymity, said that the new taskforce will define the criteria by which a foreign activist will be marked for deportation or barred from entry. It is unclear whether specific evidence against individual activists will be required or whether membership in an “incriminated” group will form sufficient grounds for deportation or prevention of entry. >>>

BDS movement condemns Israeli initiative to deport pro-Palestinian activists - (...) The BDS National Committee (BNC) said the new Israeli task force showed the desperation of Israel in trying to suppress the advances of the pro-Palestinian boycott movement. "After failing to counter or even diminish the unmistakable impact of BDS in isolating its brutal regime of oppression, Israel is dropping the mask,” Abd al-Rahman Abu Nahel, a spokesperson for BNC, said in a statement. “It is revealing its true face to the world as a ruthless, warmongering pariah state, and it is resorting to the same repressive tools deployed by apartheid South Africa in its last chapter, before its eventual collapse."

The intensity of the backlash against BDS, Abu Nahel argued, showed the important advances the movement had made in raising awareness of Israeli violations of human rights. "Deporting BDS activists in order to silence them and undermine their principled support for Palestinian human rights is not only anti-democratic; it is yet another incident of Israel shooting itself in the foot,” Abu Nahel said.

"This latest weapon in the intensifying Israeli legal, espionage and propaganda war against the BDS movement for Palestinian rights is a strong indicator of how desperate and irrational Israel's regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid has become in its futile attempts to hinder the impressive growth of the BDS movement around the world." >>>

Israel lobby panics about ‘spoiled’ next generation of American leaders turning against it US Politics - Philip Weiss - Last week the New York Times reported a shocking statement from the former University of California chancellor on the importance of stopping the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) on campus because it threatens to poison the next generation of American leaders against the special relationship between the United States and Israel.

Linda K. Wertheimer reported: [I]n December, Mark G. Yudof, former president of the University of California system, helped create the Academic Engagement Network. The group has some 275 members, mostly faculty, on about 110 campuses working in opposition to the B.D.S. movement. “I don’t want to see B.D.S. become stronger because, 20 years from now, these students will be judges, heads of Congress,” Mr. Yudof told me. “We have to respond now to maintain the historical relationship with Israel.” Yudof is not alone in being panicked about the effect of college politics on the future of the Israel lobby. >>>

Elor Azaria is exposing the occupation, but he's no silence breaker - In testimony at his manslaughter trial for summarily executing a disarmed Palestinian attacker, Elor Azaria is openly describing the violence, de-humanization, hatred, and settler domination that defines the occupation. But make no mistake, he’s not breaking his silence. - Yuli Novak

Nothing better symbolizes a loss of direction and of hope than focusing on trivial details, instead of on the larger picture. Elor Azaria, the Israeli soldier who summarily executed a disarmed Palestinian attacker in Hebron earlier this year, is the trivial detail. Because this is not about him — this is about the occupation.

Much can be said about Elor Azaria’s testimony during his ongoing military court trial for manslaughter. This testimony — the product of a legal defense strategy, not of a moral stance – coldly and clearly describes the reality and the devastation of the occupation, within which the Hebron shooting took place. >>>

No, Palestinians don't need to empathize with the Zionist narrative - In the Israeli-Palestinian domain, the current demand for empathy above all else is obscuring what should be a more urgent discourse — that of rights. - Peter Eisenstadt and Mira Sucharov

If American Jewish historians Hasia Diner and Marjorie Feld’s Haaretz article last week disavowing Zionism was intended to provoke, it has succeeded. Diner called her earlier Zionism a “naïve delusion,” while Feld wrote of her painful rejection of Zionist “propaganda.” In response, Jonathan Sarna, another American Jewish historian, accused the authors of exchanging one “naïve delusion” for another. Rabbi and talmudist Ysoscher Katz called the authors “weak-kneed.” Los Angeles-based Rabbi David Wolpe dared the authors to experience the chilly reception his congregants would likely accord them. Journalist Jeffrey Goldberg tweeted that the piece prompted him to consider stopping reading Haaretz altogether. >>>

Israel’s hydro-apartheid keeps West Bank thirsty - Charlotte Silver - EI - "[...] Israel’s Military Order No. 158 strictly forbids drilling or any other water works, including springs, pipes, networks, pumping stations, irrigation pools, water reservoirs, simple rainwater harvesting cisterns, which collect the rain falling on one’s roof. Everything is forbidden or rather not `permitted` by the Civil Administration, Israel’s occupation regime. Even repair and maintenance of wells requires military permits. And we simply don’t get them" >>>

Oriented – A Documentary

The documentary „Oriented“ shows three gay Palestinian Israeli citizens who live in Tel Aviv. Jake Witzenfeld produced the film before the Israeli massacre in the Gaza Strip in 2014 and it revolves around the question of identity. Gay Palestinians find it difficult to be accepted by their own society, but they feel almost the same discrimination in liberal Tel Aviv because they are not Israelis and Jews. Despite their feeling discriminated by Zionist Israel, the film is free of any of usual clichés towards Palestinians.

The three protagonists, Khadar, Fadi and Naim, living in Tel Aviv, exploring how they can teach their families that they are gay. Khadar and Fadi have Israeli friends. However, you are aware that they are still not recognized as equal citizens in a society dominated by Zionism. Fadi feels guilty because he has fallen in love with an Israeli soldier. „I’m in love with the enemy.“ >>>

USA gegen Deutsch-Russische Allianz
