Netanyahu seeks expulsion of Arab-Israeli Knesset member  - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday conferred with the country’s Attorney General to consider the possible expulsion from parliament of Arab-Israeli lawmaker Hanin Zoabi.

Earlier in the day, a clash broke out in the Knesset after Arab-Joint List MK Zoabi labeled as “murderers”, Israeli soldiers who participated in an attack in 2010 against a Turkish aid flotilla headed to the Gaza Strip in an effort to lift an embargo imposed by Israel.

Zoabi went to say that a deal signed earlier this week between Turkey and Israel amounts to a murder confession by Israel.

“I demand an apology to me and to all the political activists who were on the Marmara,” she said, referring to the Mavi Marmara that was attacked in international waters resulting in the deaths of 10 Turkish nationals. >>>

Zoabi: Netanyahu Requests Expulsion of MK from Knesset (VIDEO) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Wednesday, spoke with Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit regarding the possible expulsion of Arab MK Hanin Zoabi from the Knesset. Netanyahu’s demand came following Zoabi’s condemnation of the continued Israeli crimes against Palestinians and calls for lifting Gaza siege. “With her actions and lies she crossed every line and she has no place in the Knesset,” Netanyahu claimed. >>>

Since members of Israel’s parliament can’t take out their anger about the Turkey reconciliation deal on Netanyahu, they go for the easiest target around  - Orly Noy - For all nine years of my childhood in Iran, I never personally encountered anti-Semitism. We lived in a mixed neighborhood, I studied at a Jewish high school along with non-Jews, and I cannot remember even a single instance where I was insulted or attacked for being Jewish.

From time to time I would hear stories from older family members about quarrels with the neighborhood hooligans who would harass them for being Jewish. The motif almost always repeated itself: the thugs would always demand the Jews apologize. “Ask for forgiveness, Jude,” they demanded, blocking the path until the Jew apologized for his or her existence. Only then would they be able to pass. Or not. Either way, it could have easily resulted in blows. >>>

Unlawful and brutal attack on Turkish boat improves with age in the New York Times - Phil Weiss and Donald Johnson - In a writeup of Israeli responses to the deal with Turkey this week, New York Times reporter Isabel Kershner basically justifies the killings of ten activists on the Turkish boat the Mavi Marmara in 2010. That’s a pattern with the NYT– wait long enough and something controversial that happened in the past will be written up entirely in Israel’s favor. >>>

Harvard scholar calls for US-Israel treaty to ‘lock in’ special relationship before young Democrats end the romance - Philip Weiss - 29. 6. 2016 - Hillary Clinton keeps saying she wants to take the Israel relationship “to the next level.” What could that mean? Robert Danin, a former peace processor now at Harvard’s Kennedy School, has an article in Foreign Affairs calling for a treaty between the United States and Israel to establish a “formal alliance” that requires the U.S. to defend Israel– and thereby “lock in” the special relationship before Americans get too lukewarm about Israel.

Danin worries that the Democratic Platform fight heralds a new American perception of Israel as a Goliath, and so he urges Israel and the U.S. to formalize the relationship before all the young progressive hordes get out of college and end what he describes as a “romantic” view of Israel. And he says that the special relationship is vital to Israel because “many countries throughout the world perceive the route to Washington as coming through Jerusalem. So this improves Israel’s standing in the world.” I never heard it put so baldly before: Warm up the empire by sucking up to the client state. (No wonder, Scott McConnell in his new book Ex-Neocon, argues that Israel has been a transmission belt for bad policies.) >>>

Democrats try to bury Palestine in middle of the night - Rania Khalek - 27 June 2016 - In the early morning hours of 25 June, while many Americans were asleep, Hillary Clinton allies on the Democratic Party’s platform drafting committee blocked a motion that called for an end to Israel’s military occupation and illegal settlement enterprise.

The vote came after several grueling hours of bickering between members named to the committee by Clinton and Democratic National Committee chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, on the one hand, and those appointed by Senator Bernie Sanders, on the other.

The video above shows highlights of the heated exchanges surrounding the vote.

Deeper struggles over Israel taking place within the party have been brought into the open since Sanders named prominent supporters of Palestinian rights to the committee that is writing the party’s general election platform.

Clinton, who appears likely to clinch the party’s presidential nomination after a hard-fought primary battle with Sanders, named members who back her staunch pro-Israel line. >>>
