Israel verhängt Einreiseverbot für BDS-Bewegung-Co-Gründer Omar Barghouti - Carlos Latuff. Israel hat ein Reiseverbot für BDS-Bewegung-Co-Gründer Omar Barghouti verhängt: Israel hat offiziell abgelehnt, das Reisedokument der Boykott, Divestment und Sanktionen (BDS) Bewegung Mitbegründer Omar Barghouti zu erneuern. Israel imposes travel ban on BDS movement co-founder Omar Barghouti - Israel has officially refused to renew the travel document of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement co-founder Omar Barghouti in a move that amounts to a travel ban and is an escalation of its attacks on Palestinian human rights defenders who nonviolently advocate for Palestinian rights under international law.

Barghouti, who lives with his family in Acre, has Israeli permanent residency and requires an Israeli travel document to be able to travel in and out of Palestine/Israel. His immediate reaction was: “I am unnerved but certainly undeterred by these threats. Nothing will stop me from struggling for my people’s freedom, justice and peace”. Israel’s decision not to grant a renewal of the travel document on baseless bureaucratic pretenses is being viewed by human rights experts as the first step towards revoking Barghouti’s permanent residency. >>>

‘Love of country fills his soul’: Daughter of imprisoned Palestinian astrophysicist speaks out on her father’s case - Charlotte Kates - Palestinian astrophysicist Imad Barghouthi, a professor at Al-Quds University, is currently being held in Israeli administrative detention – imprisonment without charge or trial. His three-month sentence is indefinitely renewable on the basis of “secret evidence” to which he and his lawyer are denied access.

Barghouthi’s imprisonment has touched off protests from scientists and academics around the world; his work in astrophysics is world-renowned. AURDIP (the Association of Academics for the Respect of International Law in Palestine, France), BRICUP (British Committee for the Universities of Palestine), and BACBI (Belgian Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel) have appealed to the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, urging him to request the suspension of the EU’s Association Agreement with Israel until Barghouthi is freed. >>>

Report - 106 Seiten - pdf - (...)  According to British author George Orwell, political speech is ‘largely the defence of the indefensible’. For example, in political speech the bombing of civilians may be called ‘pacification’, their forcible displacement the ‘transfer of population’, and their imprisonment without trial or execution the ‘elimination of unreliable elements’.1

Orwell’s essay on ‘Politics and the English language’ was first published back in 1946; however, during the summer of 2014, Israel and its Western allies used a similar kind of political speech to distort reality. A United Nations (UN) inquiry found that Israel’s military assault resulted in the death of 2,251 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly civilians, and 73 people in Israel, mostly soldiers;2 nevertheless the Israelis named it ‘Operation Protective Edge’. Palestinian children living in one of the most densely populated places on earth could be targeted, the Israeli military argued, because they were being used as ‘human shields’.3 And any pause in the massacre was hailed as a ‘humanitarian ceasefire’.4

Israel’s political speech was echoed at the highest levels of European governments. As Israel began its assault on Gaza in July, French President François Hollande declared that ‘it was up to the Israeli government to take all measures to protect its population’.5 A statement from British Prime Minister David Cameron’s office ‘reiterated the UK’s staunch support for Israel’ and ‘underlined Israel’s right to defend itself’.6 Michael Mann, the European Union’s (EU) then spokesperson on foreign policy, said that Israel was resorting to ‘retaliatory fire’.7 >>>

WCC: Israeli treatment of representatives at airport unacceptable  - After traveling to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv in the last week for a climate justice meeting, World Council of Churches (WCC) staff and partners were detained or deported in a manner that WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit terms both unprecedented and intolerable.

“The WCC protests the excessive, unreasonable and wholly unwarranted treatment by the Israeli authorities of these representatives of WCC member churches and staff traveling to engage in discussions on climate change and environmental stewardship, at the invitation of and hosted by WCC’s member churches in the region,” he said.

Members of the WCC’s Working Group on Climate Change from as many as 13 countries reported they were held for hours of interrogation, including tough intimidation and detention in prison-like conditions for up to three days — a very difficult experience, Tveit said. “We react in different ways emotionally to experiences like this. For all of them, I think it was totally unexpected and very disturbing, for most of them shocking, as they have never experienced anything like this before.” >>>

Human rights advocates attend RE/MAX shareholder meeting to demand that the global real estate giant stop selling homes in illegal Israeli settlements - Ariel Gold -

Human rights advocates were present both inside and outside of RE/MAX’s annual shareholder meeting in Denver, Colorado last Thursday. Driving into the entrance of the Marriott Tech Center Hotel, RE/MAX board members and shareholders were greeted by around 30 protesters from CODEPINK, Jewish Voice for Peace, Friends of Sabeel – North America, and Coloradans for Justice in Palestine. The group held signs, banners, and cardboard boxes painted like Israeli settlements to express their demand that RE/MAX immediately stop profiting from Israeli apartheid by selling, renting, and advertising homes in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Inside the meeting, Sam Jones of the Heartland Institute, presented his organization’s  >>>

How I explained the Nakba to my kids - Noam Rotem - Say Dad, what is independence? - An independent person is a person who can do whatever they want. They are free and nobody makes decisions for them. When a state is independent, it means that no one tells it what to do and it can decide for itself what it deems to be good and bad.

And what is Independence Day?
- Independence Day is the day the State of Israel became independent. The rest of the countries in the world agreed it could assume control over the land of Israel without anyone else telling it what to do.

Who told it what to do?
- Before there was a State of Israel, the British ruled here, and before them the Turks. They controlled the Jews and the Palestinians. After the other countries agreed to give up the country, the British departed and left it for the Jews and the Arabs. >>>

Being beaten by settlers can get you arrested - if you're Palestinian - IDF soldiers find Palestinians beaten by settlers yet do not ask the right questions. An incident that will, inevitably, go completely under the radar. - Yossi Gurvitz - Israeli soldiers block the main, unpaved access road to the West Bank village of Khirbet Tana after military forces demolished a number of structures in the village, April 7, 2016. (Ahmad al-Bazz / Activestills.org)

On November 21, 2015 B., a Palestinian youth, went with his friend H., from his village of A-Dik in the West Bank, to bring food to H.’s father, who was busy working the land.

At about 14:00, they found H.’s father and gave him the food. Then they went to another part of the same plot of land to gather “white fragrant flowers named ‘Jargas,’” as B. would later recount. They were about a kilometer away from the Israeli settlement of Bruchin when they noticed three horsemen approaching them. Only when they were very close did the Palestinians realize they were Israeli civilians.

Two of the riders were armed: one with a rifle, the other with a handgun. At gunpoint, they forced the two boys to stand still. The third rider, armed with a club, began beating them while the two others pointed their guns at them. The beating went on for a long while — B. thought it continued for a full ten >>>

The role of Israeli Jews in planning for Palestinian return - Perhaps the most important area in which Jewish Israelis can be active regarding Palestinian return is preparing the Israeli public for that eventuality. - Eitan Bronstein Aparicio

The Nakba has entered the mainstream Israeli discourse in recent years in ways that were unthinkable in the past. A large majority of Jews in Israel know it is a word in Arabic connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and has a negative connotation, shows a public opinion poll to be published soon by De-Colonizer, a research and art laboratory for social change, that provides materials and tools to expose and challenge the colonialist nature of the Israeli regime.

In response to that public recognition we have seen a dramatic shift on the part of the Israeli government and right-wing group Im Tirtzu. The “Nakba Law,” which passed in >>>
