Nahostkonflikt: Palästinenserpräsident Abbas kündigt Osloer Friedensprozess auf - Die Palästinenser wollen sich nicht mehr an den 1993 vereinbarten Nahost-Friedensprozess von Oslo halten. Er fühle sich nicht mehr an die Vereinbarung gebunden, sagte Palästinenserpräsident Abbas. Palästinenserpräsident Mahmoud Abbas hat den Osloer Nahost-Friedensprozess von 1993 aufgekündigt. Solange Israel die Einigung ständig verletze, wollten die Palästinenser nicht die Einzigen sein, die sich an das Abkommen hielten, sagte Abbas am Mittwoch in der Uno-Vollversammlung in New York. "Wir erklären, dass solange Israel nicht die mit uns getroffenen Vereinbarungen umsetzt und solange Israel sich weigert, die Besiedlung der besetzten Gebiete zu stoppen und palästinensische Gefangene freizulassen, dass sie uns keine Wahl lassen, als darauf zu bestehen, dass wir nicht die Einzigen sind, die sich an das Abkommen halten, welches Israel ständig verletzt", sagte Abbas. "Wir erklären deshalb, dass wir uns nicht weiter an das Abkommen gebunden fühlen." >>>

Oslo war ein Kapitulationsabkommen“ Die Aufkündigung des Vertrages durch Mahmoud Abbas war überfällig, aber ist sie auch ernst gemeint? / Späte Bestätigung der Kritik Edward Saids - Arn Strohmeyer
Der Präsident der palästinensischen Autonomiebehörde Mahmoud Abbas hat den 1993 mit Israel geschlossenen Oslo-Vertrag aufgekündigt. Er fühle sich nicht länger an dieses Abkommen gebunden, weil Israel es permanent verletze: durch die Annexion palästinensischen Landes und den fortgesetzten Siedlungsbau sowie die Weigerung Israels, palästinensische Gefangene aus seinen Gefängnissen zu entlassen und und... Recht hat er. Bravo! möchte man da sagen, endlich setzen sich bei den Palästinenser Realitätssinn und Mut durch. Aber warum hat man für diesen Schritt so viele Jahre gebraucht? Denn schon lange holen die PLO die eigenen Sünden ein. Um es mit dem Edward Said zu sagen: Oslo war nie etwas anderes als ein Akt der Kapitulation. Diesem großen palästinensischen politischen Analytiker und Humanisten war schon bei Abschluss des Vertrages klar, dass dieses Abkommen mit Frieden und Gerechtigkeit nichts zu tun hatte. Er schrieb damals: „Ich glaube aufrichtig an die Versöhnung zwischen im Widerstreit miteinander stehenden Völkern und Kulturen und habe mir in meinem Werk das Ziel gesetzt, die Versöhnung zu unterstützen. Die Art von Versöhnung, die wirklichen Frieden bringen kann, kann es aber nur zwischen Gleichen geben, zwischen Partnern, deren Unabhängigkeit, Zielstrebigkeit und innerer Zusammenhalt ihnen erlauben, den anderen wirklich zu verstehen und mit ihm Kompromisse einzugehen. In der gegenwärtigen Situation ist es Israel gelungen, die Araber – und insbesondere die erschöpften Palästinenser – davon zu überzeugen, dass Gleichheit unmöglich ist und dass es Frieden nur zu den von Israel und der Vereinigten Staaten diktierten Bedingungen geben kann.“ Und bitter schrieb er über die PLO: „Zum ersten Mal im 20. Jahrhundert hatte eine antikoloniale Befreiungsbewegung nicht nur ihre eigenen beträchtlichen Errungenschaften einfach aufgegeben, sondern außerdem auch ein Abkommen über die Zusammenarbeit mit einer Militärbesatzung geschlossen, noch bevor diese Besatzung aufgehört hatte und sogar noch bevor die Regierung Israels überhaupt zugegeben hatte, dass sie eine Regierung der militärischen Besatzung ist; bis auf den heutigen Tag hat Israel nicht eingestanden, dass es eine Besatzungsmacht ist.“ Mit dem Abkommen habe Jassir Arafat damals mit einem Federstrich die Vergangenheit des palästinensischen Volkes, seine zukünftigen Rechte und seine gegenwärtigen Hoffnungen missachtet. Arafat und seine Berater, zu denen damals auch Abbas gehörte, hätten sich damit begnügt, „jeden Brotkrumen zu akzeptieren, den die Vereinigten Staaten und Israel vielleicht für sie vom Tisch fallen lassen würden, nur um als Teil des Friedensprozesses zu überleben.“ Und zur Bilanz des Oslo-Abkommens schrieb Edward Said vor mehr als 20 Jahren: „Ich stehe vor der Notwendigkeit, die Wahrheit aufzudecken und nicht der Sprache der Heuchelei, Schmeichelei und Selbsttäuschung das Feld zu überlassen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass die meisten Palästinenser die totale Unwürdigkeit unserer Situation empfinden. Israelische Soldaten hindern unser Volk an der Fortbewegung in Gebieten, die angeblich unser Territorium sind, sie töten unschuldige Zivilisten, foltern Gefangene zu Tode, stehlen unser Land, sperren unsere Menschen ein, zerstören ihre Häuser und Felder, während die israelische Regierung ihre neuen Siege als Erfolge von Frieden und Menschlichkeit ausgibt.“ An dieser Situation hat sich bis heute nichts geändert, sie ist eher noch schlimmer geworden. Was also hat Oslo gebracht? Israel hat in den vergangenen Jahren keine Anstalten gemacht, das Recht der Palästinenser auf Selbstbestimmung anzuerkennen noch die Besatzung zu beenden. Mahmoud Abbas drops wet firecracker, not bombshell, at UN - Ali Abunimah On Wednesday, Mahmoud Abbas told the United Nations General Assembly that his Palestinian Authority would no longer be bound by the 1993 Oslo accords with Israel. Despite headlines trailing it as a “bombshell,” Abbas’ speech was more of a wet firecracker, as I told The Real News today. The PA leader failed to announce any concrete measures and only threatened unspecificied future actions. Are pro-Israel bullies on US campuses planning dirtier tactics? - Nora Barrows-Friedman - A member of the University of California’s governing body has called for the expulsion or suspension of students for expressing their views about Israel, under the guise of combating anti-Jewish bigotry. This comes as Israel lobby groups, flush with huge new injections of cash, are stepping up their efforts to silence the Palestine solidarity movement on campuses nationwide. During a 17 September meeting of the University of California (UC) Regents to discuss a “statement of principles against intolerance,” Richard Blum also threatened to have his wife, US Senator Dianne Feinstein, publicly criticize the university if it did not enforce penalties against perceived bigotry. Feinstein’s criticism could put the university system under federal scrutiny. Another regent, Hadi Makarechian, agreed, according to The San Francisco Chronicle, saying that without punishment, “we’re just stating a lot of stuff on paper.” Blum and other regents, backed by Israel lobby groups, are pushing the university to adopt policies that free speech advocates warn could violate the First Amendment. >>>

Gaza’s caretakers become its breadwinners - Isra Saleh el-Namey - Five years ago, Soha Masri lost her husband because of an Israeli air strike on Gaza. Becoming a widow placed her in financial peril. She had three daughters, all of whom had plans to study at university. How could she support them? Masri, now aged 45, took the initiative of setting up a small poultry farm in Nuseirat refugee camp. She began selling the food produced on it to relatives and neighbors. “It is not an easy job to take care of the chickens,” she said. “But I try my best so that I can make enough to pay part of my children’s expenses.” Many other women in Gaza are in a similar situation. Signs of increasing suicides in devastated Gaza - Muammar Quider was set to marry, but he reached his breaking point as he dealt with the unique pressures of life in the Gaza Strip. The 21-year-old Palestinian recently tried to kill himself by swallowing rat poison. "All doors were closed for me," he said after having survived and been treated, explaining that police had repeatedly arrested him and shut down his fruit stand, depriving him of an income. Signs have emerged of an increase in suicides and suicide attempts in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian enclave run with an iron fist by Islamist movement Hamas and devastated by three wars with Israel since 2008. It is impossible to obtain official figures on the subject, which remains taboo in a territory where traditional and religious values dominate. Police insist that it has not become widespread.
