„Schwarzer Freitag“ 2014 - Amnesty wirft Israel Kriegsverbrechen gegen Palästinenser vor - Die Menschenrechtsorganisation Amnesty International wirft Israel vor, während des sogenannten „Schwarzen Freitags“ im Gaza-Konflikt Kriegsverbrechen begangen zu haben. Das geht aus einem am Mittwoch veröffentlichten Bericht hervor.

Am 1. August 2014, einem Freitag, war der israelische Soldat Hadar Goldin während einer Feuerpause von Hamas-Kämpfern nahe der Stadt Rafah im Gazastreifen gefangen genommen worden. Die Armee erklärte ihn später für tot. In den Tagen nach der Entführung beschoss Israel die Region massiv. Dabei wurden Amnesty zufolge mindestens 135 Zivilisten getötet.

„Es gibt starke Beweise dafür, dass Israel durch seine unerbittliche und massive Bombardierung von Wohngebieten in Rafah Kriegsverbrechen begangen hat“, sagte Philip Luther, Direktor des Nahost- und Nordafrika-Programms. Die Armee habe verhindern wollen, dass die Hamas Goldin in einen anderen Teil des Küstenstreifens bringt und deshalb „unverhältnismäßig und unterschiedslos“ angegriffen. >>>

It announced that the operation was aimed at stopping rocket attacks from Gaza on Israeli civilians. A ground operation followed, launched on the night of 17-18 July. According to the Israeli army, one of the primary objectives of the ground operation was to destroy the tunnel system constructed by Palestinian armed groups, particularly those with shafts discovered near residential areas located in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip.

On 1 August 2014 Israel and Hamas agreed to a 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire that would take effect at 8am that day. Three weeks after Israel launched its military offensive on Gaza, thousands of Palestinians who had sought refuge in shelters or with relatives prepared to return to their homes during the anticipated break in hostilities. >>>

Tote bei Gewalt in Palästinenserlager im Libanon - Bei Auseinandersetzungen zwischen bewaffneten Gruppen in einem palästinensischen Flüchtlingslager im Libanon sind zwei Menschen getötet worden. Bei den Kämpfen im Lager Ain al-Hilwa nahe der südlibanesischen Hafenstadt Sidon seien gestern Abend zudem sechs Menschen verletzt worden, sagte ein palästinensischer Vertreter, der nicht namentlich genannt werden wollte, der Nachrichtenagentur.

Einer der Verletzten schwebe in Lebensgefahr. Bei den Getöteten handelte es sich den Angaben zufolge um ein Mitglied der im Westjordanland regierenden Fatah-Bewegung sowie um einen Saftverkäufer. Bewaffnete Männer hätten begonnen, auf zwei Mitglieder der Islamistengruppe Dschund al-Scham zu schießen, sagte der Offizielle. Daraufhin habe es einen Schusswechsel zwischen Dschund al-Scham und der Fatah gegeben. Auf die sechs Verletzten sei gezielt geschossen worden. >>>

Das bedeutet, daß es sich um einen Pakt handelt, in dem Griechenland dem israelischen Militär Hilfe zusichert, einem Militär, welches Palästina militärisch erobert hat und illegal seit 5 Jahrzehnten kolonisiert, das in Gaza praktisch alle sechs Monate dessen Infrastruktur zerstört und Massaker unter seiner Bevölkerung und Journalisten (diese wer­den bewusst angegriffen, wenn es den Soldaten „langweilig“ wird) anrichtet.

Es gibt nur ein Land auf der Welt, das solch ein Militärabkommen mit Israel abgeschlossen hat; es handelt sich um die USA, die ihre unkritische Unterstützung Israels „besondere Beziehung“ nennen. >>>

Doppelmoral - Israel weitet Siedlungsbau aus - Rüdiger Göbel - Israel bleibt sich treu und scheißt auf das Völkerrecht. Regierungschef Benjamin Netanjahu erlaubte am Mittwoch den Bau von 300 neuen Wohnungen für Siedler im besetzten Westjordanland. Zudem soll die Planung für weitere 504 Wohneinheiten im okkupierten Ostjerusalem vorangetrieben werden. Im Gegenzug werden Häuser von Palästinensern niedergewalzt. Die Genfer Konvention untersagt die Enteignung und Annexion besetzter Gebiete. Doch das ist der zionistischen Führung in Tel Aviv egal. Die ist der Meinung, die 1967 eroberten palästinensischen Gebiete sind gar nicht besetzt. Schließlich hat es vor dem Krieg ja keinen souveränen Staat Palästina gegeben. Und so wird Israel, der Staat ohne Grenzen, immer größer. Seit den Osloer Friedensgesprächen Anfang der 1990er Jahre hat sich die Zahl der Siedler im Westjordanland von rund 110.000 auf heute 350.000 mehr als verdreifacht. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the “immediate construction of 300 housing units” had been approved at the Beit El settlement site in the West Bank, adding that planning permission for another 413 homes in annexed East Jerusalem had also been granted. >>>

Hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to appease his Likud and Habaiyt Hayehudi ministers by announcing construction of housing units in West Bank settlements and in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, the international community responded with condemnations.

Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu caved to pressure from the right and from within his government over the demolition of housing units in Beit El, and announced the immediate construction approval for 300 housing units in Beit El. In addition, he approved moving forward with the planning of 500 new housing units in Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

A statement published by the European Union said that Netanyahu's declarations "call into question the Israeli government's stated commitment to a negotiated two-state solution in the Middle East peace process. The EU called on the prime minister to call off the move.

Plans by the Israeli government to legalize West Bank outposts would further undermine the possibility of effectively implementing a two-state solution, the EU said.

"The EU expects the Israeli government to demonstrate its commitment to the two-state solution not only in words, but also through its actions." The statement read. "We urge the government of Israel to urgently reverse recent decisions and put an end to settlement expansion."  >>>>

In Gaza’s ruins, “we will think of those we lost” - Charlotte Silver and Ezz Zanoun - The al-Ejla family sits in front the rubble of their destroyed home in Shujaiya, east of Gaza City, as they break their Ramadan fast earlier this summer.

In Gaza, one year after Israel’s devastating assault, rubble is swept into piles and destroyed buildings are left half-standing. Gaza has been allowed only impossibly scant means for reconstruction, exacerbating the depredations wrought by eight years of siege.

More than 12,500 homes were completely destroyed last summer and a similar number had major or severe damage, displacing 100,000 people.

Lack of alternative shelter has forced some of the many displaced Palestinians to move back into the skeletal remains of their homes. Others return to the sites of their former homes to sit, meet their old neighbors and remember what once was.

Israeli Soldiers Shot Hundreds of Palestinian Children with Live Ammunition: The Devastating Impact of Life After an Injury - Ali Abunimah - “Before I was shot I did not bother anyone or get angry with anybody,” says Basel Kamal Safi from Deir Ammar refugee camp, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

He was just 17 when an Israeli soldier shot him with live ammunition.

“Now I get angry because of the pain, especially when someone accidentally touches my injury,” he says in the short video below.

All three killings took place during raids in the middle of the night to detain suspects in crimes we know nothing about, sometimes crimes the suspects know nothing about. Last year, a delegation of Knesset members went to visit PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Among the MKs who participated were Hilik Bar of Labor and Tamar Zandberg of Meretz. There had been a terror attack a few days earlier and there was some pressure to cancel the visit. But MK Bar, who was the head of the Knesset’s Two-State Caucus, wasn’t deterred. A bona fide Zionist, an IDF captain in the reserves, he thought he would be immune from the accusations that would be hurled at him.

The delegation members went to Ramallah, were photographed meeting with the PLO chairman and put out press releases. But MK Bar didn’t foresee the might of the Right’s propaganda machine. A few hours after the delegation returned to Jerusalem, the settler organizations got to work: they bought up ad space in newspapers and accused MK Bar of encouraging terrorism. >>>
